Built in 1870 on the tip of Old Mission peninsula. to warn ships of a shoal which extends from the peninsula. The lighthouse now sits as a center piece for the beautiful Peninsula Township Park. The lighthouse sit almost exactly on the 45th parallel (the half way point between the North pole and the Equator). The trip up Old Mission Peninsula is one of the best drives in Michigan, as you pass winery's and cherry orchards and great views of both East and West Grand Traverse Bay.
